Curriculum

Our Preschool Curriculum

At HFS, we use Frog Street Curriculum for all classes. Frog Street Pre-K is a comprehensive, bilingual program that integrates instruction across developmental domains and early learning disciplines. The program is engaging for both teachers and children and is easy to implement. The cornerstones of the program are:

  • An Extensive Integration of Theme
  • Special Attention to Social-Emotional Development
  • Equity of English & Spanish Materials & Instruction
  • Disciplines & Domains
  • Support of Differentiated Instruction
  • A Joyful Approach to Learning

We also celebrate our Christian faith through books and songs from a variety of sources and feed all children two nutritional meals a day plus snacks and formula for our infants.

Class Information

Toddlers

We focus on learning skills that enhance independence in the classroom. This Includes:

  • Drinking from a Cup without Spilling
  • Eating Independently
  • Washing Hands
  • Common Nursery Rhymes
  • Sitting in a Group & Listening to Stories
  • Songs with Movements
  • Playing Well with Other Children

Early Preschool (2's)

The children learn about colors, shapes, numbers, and letters through songs and activities. Children are also practicing learning restroom and handwashing skills and becoming more independent at meal times.

Pre-K 1 and Pre-K 2 (3's & 4's)

At this age, we continue to learn about colors, shapes, numbers, and letters through songs and activities. Children are also learning to recognize and write their names. Additionally, computers are available in these rooms and children to have time each day to play interactive and educational games.

Kindergarten Prep

Children are advancing in academic readiness, including early reading, writing, and basic number sense. Students are entirely independent in hygiene and mealtime skills, and transitional kindergarten students also have learning opportunities outside of the school through a variety of field trips.

School Age

Children from kindergarten through fifth grade are picked up at local elementary schools and assisted with homework, a snack, and outside play. During school breaks and summer vacation, school-age children have activities and field trips appropriate to their age.

Tuition Assistance Available (Application Deadline December 1 - January 1)

A scholarship program exists to help cover the tuition for families who desire a high-quality educational program but who may be struggling financially. Scholarships are awarded throughout the year, and our program is supported through generous donations and our annual fundraiser gala.

Please keep in mind; scholarships are based on income. We ask first that you apply for tuition assistance through the Texas Workforce Childcare Services (1-800-260-5134). Sometimes they may provide your entire tuition depending on your circumstances and income.

Once you have applied for assistance through Childcare Services, you may apply for a scholarship through HFS if you were not successful. Applications are available in the school office. Please notice on the application that along with your scholarship application, you must provide your last year's IRS Form 1040 as proof of income and the number of residents in your household.

If you are awarded a scholarship, you must donate four hours of service to HFS per month. If you are bestowed a Kindergarten Prep scholarship, you must give eight hours of service. Open Enrollment is available throughout the year.
